About Pride Films and Plays
Mission Statement – Pride Films and Plays (PFP) uses theater and film to explore historical, current and cutting-edge issues involving gender and sexuality. The work that is generally new to Chicago, offers gender parity, racial equality, and the opportunity to work with a multi-generational group of artists. We believe this work – with LGBTQ+ characters and themes – is essential viewing for all audiences.
PFP is the primary tenant in the Pride Arts Center (PAC) which also houses rental space for new small theater companies and is donated to many non-profits for fund-raisers ranging from Matthew Shepard Foundation to Climate Change Theater. PAC slates one-night events or limited runs that complement the PFP mission, including monthly film festivals, regular cabaret concerts, comedy and drag nights among others, that keep us accessible to the full rainbow of the LGBTQ+ community. Because gender issues are in important part of the national conversation – in regard to the military, employment, faith and government- the work of PFP is more essential than ever.
