Board Position Details

BOARD MEMBER: We are looking for Board members with a passion for youth access to high-quality performing arts education who are also highly skilled professionals willing to play an integral role in supporting the growth and sustainability of the organization in these first years as a nonprofit. Our staff believe strongly in the power of the performing arts in a child’s life and we expect all Board members to share this belief. 

At this time, we’re seeking working Board members who are enthusiastic about rolling up their sleeves to help the organization thrive. With everything from assessing the financial health of the organization to fundraising to attending events, we’re looking for passionate individuals who are ready to make their commitment as a Dream Big Board member a priority. We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience in nonprofit finance, fundraising, communications/marketing, governance, human resources/talent development, and special events management.

  • Board Term: One year minimum board commitment, with an option to extend to additional consecutive terms. While it’s not required according to our by-laws, we ask that Board members come in with a desire to make a commitment of more than one year.
  • Financial Contribution: Board members are required to contribute financially.
  • Faith-based Organization: We are not a faith-based organization.

About Dream Big Performing Arts

The mission of Dream Big is to enrich children’s lives with life-affirming and energizing, creative experiences in the performing arts. With a focus on fostering confidence and self-expression, these collaborative experiences led by professional teaching artists allow children’s hearts and spirits to shine bright on and off the stage.

Dream Big began in January 2006 with one class of just four students. It was a small class with big dreams! 13 years later, Dream Big provides hundreds of workshop-based enrichment programs in and out of schools throughout the Chicagoland area, residencies where we collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate drama and standardized curriculum to enhance student learning, weekly themed drama camps throughout the summer, as well as one large-scale professional production experience on stage at the Athenaeum Theatre every August. Our compassionate team of teaching and administrative staff is comprised of talented field professionals embedded in all aspects of the theater arts community and experienced educators, who each believe strongly in the power of the performing arts in a child’s life.

We are proud to now serve an average of nearly 1,000 students per week in and out of schools throughout the year. Our growth is in thanks to incredible support from our community members, extraordinary teaching artists, and our heart-centered administrative team.

Core to our mission since day one is providing a way for all children to participate in our programs no matter the financial constraints. In the past 13 years, we have never turned a child away due to lack of funds. In August of 2016, we filed our Articles of Incorporation so that we can operate as a nonprofit and honor this commitment in a more sustainable way. Our 501(c)3 status is official as of November 2018 which means we are a new nonprofit and looking for Board members with a desire to play an integral role in shaping the future of our organization.
